here i was trying to come up with something for Phil Brucato's Deliria project,
i think we were looking for something for next book after Deliria, the Aelder Fae....
anyway i was hunting around for some type of ethereal being semi fairy-ish but
with the look of something also alien to human thought.
sadly, the follow up to Deliria, a book about the Aelder Fae,
never came into being because Smoke, Mirror
and Muse couldn't hold it together - infighting is the ruin of so many promising enterprises!
--- fortunately, i am happy with what i've done, and as a result of
working with Phil on Deliria, i have some of my favorite pieces because of it!
get ready now as there is a plethora of renders here with me exploring this and that - goblins,
fae, creatures and such all related -- but not LOL.
this is a tightly cropped portrait showing off some of the neato textures of the crystal dream fae's face

and here we're playing with the concept of creating a russian religious icon type portrait
of one of the Aelder Fae. by the way, if you like this version, i've got it available on
iStock so you can use it in your own work, royalty free.

right, an here is another attempt. she's funky and a bit creepy but i also find her quite appealing
somehow. the golden skin she's got could almost be seen as some type of insectoid carapice skin
covering like she's not really mamalian but perhaps highly evolved from bug genetics spliced in
there somewhere in her family tree!
|
ya know i printed this up and stuck it in a frame -- the idea was to not have to spend money
on matting anything. i have to say the effect is quite pleasant!
|
here i was just playing around with some alternate coloring. not sure which i prefer so i decided
to show both the blue variant and the original. :-)
|
and here is the bug aelder fae showing off with her fractal fan. :-) she's such a happy girl.
|
i'm obsessive about my fractals, so i figured no harm
in letting everyone see the root of all this compulsive rendering...
all of these images were created from this basic root fractal used as a texture!
yup. this fractal image was 'rendered' in ultrafractal. then, i played with it to make
variations for use with poser and xenodream. it's used as both a decorative element and
texture map over and over and over and over and over.... again LOL
|
this image uses the base 'elven' figure as the starting point. then with some funky 3d
texturing with a different fractal to act as the base of the bump map, we got this
very cool effect! i'm all for reusing assets, so you will find bits and pieces of
familiar things scattered all over the place here!
